Frequently Asked Questions

What are dental veneers?

Ceramic veneers are fine sheets of custom made porcelain that are shaped and coloured in the manner of natural teeth and applied over existing teeth to improve you smile and your confidence. Many people liken the process to applying false nails over the top of natural nails. Veneers are versatile and can correct a range of common problems patients may have. Ceramic veneers are incredibly natural looking and often are a key treatment in a smile makeover.

Read our blog “A complete guide to dental veneers” for more information.

How long will my dental veneers last?

Whether you have gaps that need closing, chips and staining that need covering or crooked teeth in need of correction, veneers can provide an almost instant rejuvenation in just a few visits. When looked after well, veneers will look their very best for between 7-15 years, and will oftern go on to last many years more. Like normal teeth, they can be chipped or broken, and require the same maintenance as the rest of your teeth.

How can I best maintain my dental veneers?

Ceramic restorations look beautiful and restore function to your mouth however if they are not looked after properly, they will not last as long and potentially cause irreversible problems with the underlying or adjacent teeth. You will need regular hygiene appointments (initially every 3 months) dental check-ups every 6-12 months to ensure the veneers remain in good condition. We would like you to brush your teeth at least twice a day and clean interdentally every day too.

What type of dental veneers do you offer?

Ceramic Veneers

Ceramic veneers are manufactured individually by a ceramicist in a dental laboratory, having been designed prior to treatment. Ceramic veneers provide an aesthetically superior and longer lasting outcome compared to composite veneers. This process usually takes between 2-3 weeks. After 1 week we will ask you to attend and appointment to check that you are still happy with the look of your temporary veneers prior to finishing the manufacturing process. When the manufacturing process is complete we will ask you to attend an appointment to bond the veneers onto your teeth. They are primarily used to repair minor problems like the shape, size and colour of the teeth. Patients with gaps between teeth can also use porcelain veneers. These are also ideal for patients looking to shorten or lengthen teeth.

Composite Veneers

A composite veneer is a dental restoration attached to the front of your tooth in one visit, using composite material They are used to reshape or address discolouration, crookedness, or chips. They differ from the porcelain veneer as composite veneers are shaped and polished by a clinician in your mouth rather than by a ceramicist in a laboratory. Aesthetically, composite will never look as good or have as long a lifespan as ceramic veneers but it is often chosen as an appropriate option for those individuals on a tighter budget or want to spend less time in the dental chair.

Are dental veneers suitable for my teeth?

Veneers can be used for minor corrections in tooth position, or for changing the shape, repairing chips or heavily restored teeth. You must have excellent gum health, and this sometimes means a period of time visiting the hygienist prior to having veneers

Bath Dental Veneer Procedure

1. Initial Consultation

In our first meeting, we’ll discuss exactly what kind of smile you’re after and your suitable veneer options, including. It’s increasingly important that we discuss this as any procedure that we complete is irreversible. We will also need to take some photos and a digital scan of your teeth, before designing your smile and asking you to return later for a trial smile where you can see what they will look like on your teeth, making alterations until you’re happy.

2. Preparation

Using a special technique that is guided by the agreed design for your teeth, we will only remove what is absolutely necessary for the optimum veneer thickness. This means for some teeth we will not have to do any tooth removal whatsoever. After the preparation stage, we will then place provisional veneers on your teeth to improve their appearance straight away, before starting the manufacturing process of the definitive veneers.

3. Review

This next appointment will be to check you are still happy with the provisional veneers and give us the chance to adjust them, if necessary, and relay this to the laboratory which is already working on them. After a couple of weeks, once the manufacturing process has been completed, we will then bond the veneers in place.

4. Treatment

Using minimally invasive principles, our team of award-winning dentists will apply your dental veneers and make sure that you are updated throughout the course of the procedure. Say hello to sparkling white, bright and perfectly aligned teeth.

"The ultimate dental experience. First-rate in every way."
